Dancing Feat – Chapter 12

En route, somewhere between Bucaramanga and Valledupar.

Road to Valledupar

Listo Pa’ La Foto (Ready for your Photo) by Diomedes Díaz is the ‘missed period’ song.

The actual line is: “Ay, ay, ay mi amor que me tienes un reemplazo” (Oh my love, you have a replacement for me).
And the thing the old man said was: “Ay, ay, ay mi amor que tienes un retrazo” (Oh my love, you’ve missed your period)

Vallenato is everywhere.

Supermarket

It’s definitely in the stadium

Here’s Carlos Vives with his funked-up cover of the Vallenato classic El Pollo Vallenato. I love the way it starts with something akin to an amateur practising their scales, as if to say “I don’t really know what I’m doing” before mutating into “Ha! Of course I bloody know! I was just messing with you!”.

It’s something of a purist-irker this one, but then what are purists for if not for irking?

And this is someone I didn’t mention, but who was also playing at the stadium: Peter Manjarrés – Traga’o De Ti. It’s kind of sickly sweet, but I can’t help but like it.

My hero.

Me at the stadium
